ANGEL ISLAND Excursion 8/31/2024 - Update

Very Important: Ferry departs from Ferry Building promptly at 10:15 am. The one ticket we have is for the whole group. So ALL of us must be together when board. If you're not there in time, you'll miss the boat.

On Saturday, Aug. 31, we are going as a group of about 170 of us to beautiful Angel Island in the Bay. The island, near famous Alcatraz Island, is especially important for the Asian community historically, because in the late 1800s and much of the 1900s, it was the "Ellis Island of the West," meaning that it was the western arrival point into the U.S. for most immigrants from all Asian countries.

Regardless of where you stay, please meet in the hotel lobby promptly at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, to pick up your lunch that you ordered.

We will depart from the hotel lobby at 9 a.m. and walk to the ferry building. It will be about a 25-minute walk, all flat. You also can easily take Muni Subway or BART Subway (or a taxi or Uber).

We must meet at 9:45 a.m. at Gate B in the Ferry Buidling to check in to take the ferry. To get to Gate B, go through the Ferry Building to the rear, outside along the Bay, and that is where the ferry boats depart. The ferry itself departs promptly at 10:15 a.m. but asks that we arrive 30 minutes early because of the large size of our group.

On Angel Island itself, we have a picnic area reserved for us. The walk to the picnic area is very short and flat. The walk to the Immigration Museum is hilly and strenuous, and takes about 45 minutes. To avoid the walk, you can pay about $10 for a round-trip tram/bus ticket that will take you to and from the museum, so you do not have to walk. You also may wish to skip the museum and just enjoy the outdoor beauty of the island near our picnic area.
